Building for the Future We've released rehabilitated screech owls in the yard in the past and they're still around. A Cooper's hawk built a nest in a huge banyan tree in the yard behind us a few years ago and now we're not allowed to release any more owls here. The Cooper's hawk will prey on them. It's not exactly easy for the Cooper's hawk though. One was in the back yard yesterday and was being harassed by blue jays. They were dive-bombing it repeatedly, actually lifting its feathers. This one wasn't in the backyard, but was collecting nesting material in Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Is. on Florida's west coast.
