Cool thing today - went to Cauley Square down on 224th street just off US1, for the first time in many years. William Cauley built warehouses, a bar and grill plus residences near the turn of of the last century. He was a wealthy farmer and shipped tomatoes north when Flagler's railroad reached that far south in 1903. It became an artisan village, was wiped out by Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and was bought and restored by Frances Varela 2001. It is historic and very unique for South Florida today. The Aviary is there, art studios and galleries, restaurants (The Tea Room and a juice bar with Cuban sandwiches are 2 of them), a Chapel with a park-like area for weddings and there's a young couple that are outfitting one of the old homes to accommodate events like small private parties.
